About this project

E20 Reality Check is an independent explainer on India’s ethanol-blending programme. It isn’t affiliated with any government body, political party, industry association, or advocacy group. It exists because the public conversation about E20 tends to collapse into two incompatible claims — “there is no problem” and “E20 is ruining engines” — when the underlying evidence is more specific, more mixed, and more interesting than either.

Every section draws on primary and secondary sources: government press releases and Parliament replies, NITI Aayog and ARAI reports, Bureau of Indian Standards notifications, Supreme Court filings and orders, SIAM statements, manufacturer disclosures, financial press and stock-exchange data, and independent journalism and policy analysis. Where official and independent figures disagree — which is often — this site shows both, attributed, rather than picking a side. That’s the reasoning behind the “claim vs. reality” format used throughout.

Illustrative figures (like the numbers behind the loss calculator) are explicitly labelled as illustrative and built from stated assumptions — they are not official government or industry figures, and shouldn’t be read as precise predictions for any single vehicle.

The Farmers & Food Security section discusses a real, publicly listed company and its management’s reported family relationship to a sitting minister. That section presents only documented stock-market facts already reported by mainstream financial press, without asserting any specific wrongdoing beyond what those sources themselves state.
